Report from Joshua MacLeod 9/13/07
500,000 people have died since 2003 in the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Here I am standing with three orphans whose parents are part of this sad statistic. I met these three orphans in Nymlell Sudan. We marched around in a circle singing "Father Abraham" and waving our hands in the air. After singing and playing for a while, the older girl told me about how the soldiers came in and shot her parents and how she now lived at the orphanage. Each of the other two had a similar story. Sometimes we hear a number like 500,000 killed and it doesn't mean anything. For these orphan children, it means their entire world changed.
African Leadership and our partners are providing food, shelter, Arabic bibles and medical supplies in this war torn region. We continue to raise funds and awareness through our partners and our online community Mocha Club.
The following is a note of reflection from Chris Williamson, Pastor of Strong Tower Bible Church. Strong Tower Bible Church generously donated funds for the delivery (click on video above) of food, supplies, and Arabic bibles.
"It was our privilege to give and to serve, but as usual, we were out-served and out-sacrificed by our African brothers and sisters. We gave them material blessings and they gave us spiritual blessings. We saw displaced, endangered people who still had immeasurable joy. I should have no excuses in life, because compared to them, I have no real problems. At night, I noticed that the moon and the stars in Darfur appeared closer and brighter to me than in America, and then it dawned on me: There weren't any little lights from homes, stores, or cars competing with the great lights of heaven. In a real sense, there was great darkness in Darfur but Jesus seemed closer and brighter." - Pastor Chris Williamson
