Our presence in: Sudan Boy's Dorm at New Life Orphanage-Darfur
The most common cause of death among young boys here is hyena attack. Because hyenas savagely attack and eat them, they must learn to sleep in trees at a very early age. Boys are often injured falling from their perch while sleeping.
Darfur has seen the death of more than 400,000, and displacement of 2.5 million or more, since the escalation of violence in 2003. The janjaweed soldiers have burned villages and crops, poisoned wells, and abducted Darfur youth for wives and soldiers. The eradication of non-Arab Sudanese peoples in the southern regions of Sudan has lasted more than 5 years, following two decades of civil war.
Many stories of Sudanese "lost boys" have been told, and thousands of these refugees have been relocated to the U.S. Tens of thousands more remain in Darfur, forced to flee to remote wilderness regions. These barren wastelands, where harsh conditions limit the possibilities of agriculture, are the only places for these rejected people to flee to, hundreds and even thousands of miles from any cultural centers.
African Leadership considers the care of orphans to be a priority, as Africa's young people are her future. We want to share the opportunity to rescue these children with our donors, so their story may be told, bringing transformation to a nation that has been ravaged by war for over 30 years.
Our greatest opportunity to care for these children is the construction of a Boy's Dormitory at the New Life Orphanage in Darfur. African Leadership partnered with New Life to build the girl's Dorm, Completed in 2008. Construction of the Boy's Dormitory has begun, and completion will cost about $700,000.00. Materials are brought from up to 1000 miles away for construction, but new housing for the boys will mean they no longer have to sleep in trees to be safe from hyena attack, the boy's most common cause of death. This new security for the boy's will bring emotional ,physical, and spiriual growth, enabling them to begin to heal from the atrocities of war.
African Leadership is working to bring accessible, affordable training to the Sudan for the vitality and health of the Church. In bringing the Gospel to Sudan though, the African Leadership team members and teachers face many travel difficulties, as they travel crude roads to organize and teach their classes. Please consider how you might lend your support, as you pray for Tito and his family and staff, as they labor to bring hope to the communities of Sudan. More...
