Why Train Pastors?

The basic needs in Africa are great.

The generosity of the developed world and the desire to share its good fortune are also significant. How do we match the giver, the gift, and those who receive the gift? And how do we make the greatest impact, meeting both physical necessities in this world and meeting eternal needs?

It requires a strong church.

The church becomes the institution that is able to effectively cross geographical, tribal, and economic barriers, unlike any other organization. It is the common goals and collective resources of the church which become the fabric that binds communities together. And it is through the church that temporal and eternal gifts are distributed to those in need around the world.

A strong church needs mature leaders.

In Africa, many Christian pastors are unable to attend seminary. Accessible, affordable training must be extended to as many church leaders as possible for the church to be healthy and mature. Training must be financially and geographically available for the faithful who make a commitment to serve and who sacrifice their time and resources to complete the courses. The mission of African Leadership is this: Training For Transformation.

Transformation comes about by focusing on those communities in which we have pastor training classes. We work in meeting the physical and educational needs of adults and children; in providing practical job training; in treating those infected with AIDS and in counseling their families; and in providing for those who lack clean water and the basic nutrition to survive.

Training is equivalent to a foundational-level seminary or Bible college degree. The two-year program utilizes a 10-course, 2,500-page Biblical curriculum, offered by Dr. Dennis Mock, in nine languages, with two additional translations in progress. All classes are taught by indigenous African church leaders in communities accessible to students, rather than on central campuses. This accessibility is African Leadership's focus, so that ministers may receive training they would otherwise be unable to afford while living at home and continuing to work at their jobs or farms to support their families.

African Leadership is Training For Transformation, by focusing on the love of Christ and the transforming power that comes with knowledge of God the Father and God's Word.
